Built in 1904, the Mighty Oaks Retreat has been beautifully maintained and restored, evoking both its 100+ years of history and a sense of modern luxury. This kid-friendly and pet-friendly cottage ranks up there as one of our most popular country house vacation rentals-one look, and you'll see why!

Behind the cottage, under the cooling shade of the trees, are country rockers for you to kick back in-and, should you need more space, there's also a shaded veranda with a comfy conversation pit for larger gatherings. A charcoal grill is also on hand for open-air dining. The property has 352 acres with a seasonal pond and the wide-open rural setting is ideal for hiking, bird and wildlife watching, and stargazing, and the property is surrounded by miles of country roads that are a sightseer's delight-perfect for a motorcycle tour! The rugged and scenic countryside is the perfect backdrop for a calming and authentic Texas vacation.

Inside, central air and heating assures comfort, and there's a spacious living room to socialize in-with a wood -burning fireplace, too. There's also a cozy little alcove that would serve equally well as a kid's play space or romantic snuggling spot. The kitchen's fully equipped with both appliances and basic utensils, and its centerpiece is a wood-topped island with stools. Mighty Oaks has two bedrooms-one with a King-sized bed, the other with two queens, and a sun room with a sofa pull out-sleeping up to six guests. Both bathrooms are equipped with roomy vintage tubs and the master bath also has a shower. All bathroom and bedroom linens are provided, as well, and there's a combo washer and dryer on site. Rounding out your modern tech needs are satellite TV, Wifi, and good cell coverage.

My husband and I recently bought 11 acres up the road and were in need of a “base” camp where we could stay and where our dogs would be welcome. The Mighty Oaks was perfect for our needs. From the kitchen that has everything, the clean bathrooms with great shower and bathtub and a very comfortable bed to sleep in. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunsets, grilled steaks and made s’mores. We had a lovely time and we plan on going back!

This 1902 farmhouse exceeded all expectations as a dreamy Thanksgiving retreat. Waking up to the rooster's crow and gentle clucking of hens, accompanied by the enchanting slam of the farmhouse screen door, set a perfect morning tone. Breathtaking sunsets over the picturesque landscape created a serene atmosphere. Accommodations were superb, with beds like a warm hug and a well-stocked kitchen featuring impressively sharp knives—a personal pet peeve conquered! Our pup embraced the dog-friendly environment, relishing long naps in the sun beams on the screened-in porch. The bricked fire pit prepared for endless fires with ample wood stacked nearby became our evening wine-down spot. Using the smoker to cook our ham & whole chicken, added a delicious flavor to our celebration. The hosts' accommodating spirit shone through when they allowed my aunt and uncle to bring their little dog for our get-together. One trip is not enough. We're already planning our next visit!

This is a very private, peaceful ranch stay. We were happy to see there is a separate shower stall in addition to the bathtubs. We enjoyed the privacy and escape from the city, walks down to the pond, isolation and quiet. The kitchen had the basics for cooking, the heat worked well on cold nights. Glad we arrived during daylight as it took us a little while to find the entrance and get to the house. The owner is very nice, Jess and Spencer are communicative, and we took lots of pictures of the guard llama. Close enough to take day trips to Hill Country but peaceful enough to just stay and relax at the house for the day.

We absolutely loved our stay. We stayed for a month, myself my 2 year old and our dog . Coffee was a god send there was a regular pot as well as K Cup coffee maker , with liquid and powder creamer as well as K cups and ground coffee and sugar and Splenda all provided . We loved feeding the longhorns and chickens and llama every day. This was the most amazing experience especially for my daughter!!!

I seek out ranch stays because the houses are usually older & more interesting, the wildlife plentiful and the stays private/quiet. Mighty Oaks is far and away my favorite in Texas to date. The sunroom at the back looks out on a pasture populated with calves and their guard llama, and a lone friendly horse. In the evenings, several bands of wild hogs can be seen making their way out of the brushline, across the pasture, to the next pasture. There's an armadillo who has his den in the prickly pear along the fenceline. Beyond the immediate area of the house are many trails and roads where I wandered several miles a day with my dog. We saw a few more wild friends on our walks. If wildlife and wide open spaces are your thing, this is a worthwhile stay. As far as the space itself....The dog-run style house, so typical of Texas architecture at the turn of the last century, allows the bedrooms to be split, giving everyone their space. The beds are firm (my personal preference) and the couches comfortable. The kitchen has a Keurig and a drip coffee maker (bring your own pods or grounds!) It had the pans & utensils we needed to make a stew and to cook breakfast...but we also hopped into town for Mexican food one night, and down the road to Hondo (about 20 minutes) for a pizza. Both bathrooms have comfortable cast iron tubs with hand showers. It was about 30 degrees each night of my stay. The fireplace was perfect, complete with a set of tools, but the central heat worked exceptionally well when the fireplace wasn't in use. Everything was warm and cozy. And, most importantly to me, everything from bathrooms to bed linens was clean. The owner does live on the ranch, not far from the Mighty Oaks house. You have his number for direct contact and you may see him roaming in the mornings to fill the horse's feed bucket, but otherwise you have the place to yourself. The folks who manage the property, Spencer & Jess, were immediately responsive to any questions I had before and during my stay. It was an enjoyable one. I needed the quiet and I found it.
