Property Description

A serene Hill Country setting, alongside an intense chapter of local history, come together at the kid and pet-friendly getaway of Little Montana near Utopia! It's a ranch house rental that sits on 165 scenic acres, with year-round Little Creek flowing close by. This is an ideal location, quiet and rural, yet it's close to towns like Bandera and Concan, and popular attractions like Garner State Park and the Lost Maples and Hill Country State Natural Areas. It's a fascinating Hill Country escape!

In 1866 the founder of Utopia, R.H. Kincheloe, and his family lived on or very near the property that is now Little Montana ("Montana" was his original name for the town of Utopia). In October of that year, their home was the target of a late-night Indian raid, leaving Kincheloe's wife Sarah and their friend Cynthia Bolin gravely injured. Sarah survived, but sadly Cynthia succumbed to her wounds. This story is well-known locally, and traces of its influence echo over the land here. In fact, Little Montana is a popular place to hunt for arrowheads!

Not only will you have access to Little Creek here, but Little Montana also has a refreshing swimming pool to take the edge off the Texas heat! The patio and shaded deck are adorned with comfortable outdoor furniture, and offer a great perch from which to admire local wildlife and those beautiful Hill Country views. You'll also have access to a charcoal grill for an authentic Texas cookout!

Little Montana was built in 1995, and was recently renovated. Your indoor comfort is assured with central air and heat, ceiling fans, and even a fireplace in the living area! The living area, dining, area, and kitchen are all in an open-concept space, so everyone can converse and enjoy time together. With that in mind, there's a TV with Roku with some free channels and Wifi service throughout the guest home, too. Little Montana's kitchen is fully furnished with both appliances and all the cooking ware, serving ware, utensils and glasses you'll need.

Your Hill Country nights will be nice and restful at Little Montana, too! There are two bedrooms here; one has two king-sized beds, and the second has one king, providing warm and comfy slumber for up to six people. There are two full baths, one with a shower stall, and the other with a shower/tub combo. Soft and clean linens are provided for all bed and bath spaces.

The Hill Country is Wine Country!

In the past two decades or so, the wine industry in the Hill Country has exploded with growth. That’s easy to see, with new wineries opening at a rapid pace...but we, and some of our readers, have questions. How are productive wine regions discovered? Are there official wine producing areas, and if so, how are they designated as such? This article will dig a little deeper into these questions and more.

A Handy Hill Country Q & A

At Backroads Reservations, we’re especially aware that the Texas Hill Country is reliant in a big way on tourism. We’re proud to welcome people here, and to introduce them to our own little corner of heaven. With that said, we’re also aware that everyone can’t be from here; we have a tongue-in-cheeksaying that “I’m not from Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.”

A Park By Any Other Name: Hill Country WMAs

Visitors to the Texas Hill Country are generally aware of the state, county, and city parks available to them for recreation and relaxation. From the sprawling 12,000-plus acres of the Government Canyon State Natural Area to the modest but still impressive 16 acres of Old Tunnel State Park, there’s plenty of space and natural diversity to explore, not to mention parks of wildly varying sizes!

The Little Montana Ranch is absolutely amazing and beautiful. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is it . Could not have been more pleasing and relaxing . Oh yeah the pool is the star , so refreshing it was amazing how cool the water was . The views are therapeutic and intoxicating. The property is awesome with lots of wildlife and places to hike and explore . The Little Creek River although very low it still produced some quality fishing . We would definitely stay there again , we will miss the quiet !

Absolutely loved this house and property. So quiet and peaceful. Beautiful home. Beautiful property and a nice pool. Beds were comfortable and backroads reservations were very friendly and responsive. They kindly let us stay late to let our clothes and such dry. We did not want to leave!! Will be back. 10 out of 10

This property is truly one of a kind. We loved our stay! Perfect family house with a pool and beautiful, private setting! They are so easy to work with and care about their guests experience! Highly recommend!

Montana Ranch is an amazing place. While the river was quite low for our stay, being in the middle of 165 acres in a cabin perched above the spring fed river was awesome. Buy some deer corn in town and put it out in patches away from the house and you will see lots of deer and a few wild Turkey's. Walks around the property are fantastic. It's expensive, but for the solitude, it is totally worth it. We will be going back, as it recharges your batteries from the hectic city life. Thanks Again, Miles & Julie

Loved our stay here! Working with Backroads Reservations was a wonderful experience. Our family and friends will be using them from now on!

Hey, Spencer! We absolutely loved it! Only issue was I wish we had gone Thursday night and gotten an extra day in. 😊 We'll be traveling all around the country over the summer with the oldest's softball schedule but if we have the opportunity to visit the hill country with the kids, we'll go straight to properties handled by Backroads Reservations. Super efficient and streamlined! Thank you for your help with everything!
