Property Description

You've probably heard the term "glamping" here and there; it's a combination of the words "glamour" and "camping." This concept comes alive at the Bandera Stronghold Cochise Tipi, which boosts regular tent camping to a luxurious new level! It's a cozy and brand-new 20-feet-tall by 22-feet-wide accommodation for two, with amenities like a full bath, heat and AC, a kitchenette, hot tub, shaded deck, and more. This creekside getaway is also mere minutes away from Bandera, the Cowboy Capital of the World!

The Tipi offers the historic look of an original portable Native American home, with modern comforts that will make you feel right at home! It's on a scenic, elevated location with sparkling Mason Creek directly behind it; it's rural and peaceful, with places like the Hill Country State Natural Area and the Medina River short drives away. If you're seeking space for a larger group, there are two guest cabins here. Your host lives on site for your convenience, but will respect your privacy while you're a guest here.

Everything surrounding the tipi is brand new and designed for your comfort and enjoyment. There's a roomy shaded deck with outdoor furniture overlooking the creek and the beauty of the Hill Country beyond. Swim in the creek, coast on the water with the provided floats, try your hand at catch-and-release fishing, or admire the local birds and wildlife. Take a moment from your Hill Country day to sink into the warm and soothing hot tub, and enjoy stargazing and s'mores around the fire pit. There's a charcoal grill for your use here, and hot tub and/or swimming towels and biker rags are also provided. Speaking of which, the surrounding roads are perfect for a scenic tour of the Hill Country!

The interior of the tipi is authentically appointed to evoke a night on the prairie during pioneer times...but that's where the comparison ends. There's comfortable sleeping space for two on a plush queen-sized bed, and a TV with a DVD player for cozy movie nights. The efficient heat and AC units can be adjusted to your personal comfort level, and there's even a kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker! Immediately next door is a well-appointed full bath, including a shower and tub combo. Fresh linens are provided for both bed and bath spaces, too. An additional roll-away bed is available for a third guest upon request. Keep in mind there is decent cell service at this location, with limited Wifi availability.

Experience the Hill Country in a unique way at the Bandera Stronghold Cochise Tipi! Contact us at Backroads Reservations to book this cozy and comfortable guest rental.

Please note that the host lives on-site and there are 2 other rentals  on the property. Each rental has its own private hot tub, firepit and deck. The riverfront (300 feet) is shared between all three cabins.

The Hill Country is Wine Country!

In the past two decades or so, the wine industry in the Hill Country has exploded with growth. That’s easy to see, with new wineries opening at a rapid pace...but we, and some of our readers, have questions. How are productive wine regions discovered? Are there official wine producing areas, and if so, how are they designated as such? This article will dig a little deeper into these questions and more.

A Handy Hill Country Q & A

At Backroads Reservations, we’re especially aware that the Texas Hill Country is reliant in a big way on tourism. We’re proud to welcome people here, and to introduce them to our own little corner of heaven. With that said, we’re also aware that everyone can’t be from here; we have a tongue-in-cheeksaying that “I’m not from Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.”

A Park By Any Other Name: Hill Country WMAs

Visitors to the Texas Hill Country are generally aware of the state, county, and city parks available to them for recreation and relaxation. From the sprawling 12,000-plus acres of the Government Canyon State Natural Area to the modest but still impressive 16 acres of Old Tunnel State Park, there’s plenty of space and natural diversity to explore, not to mention parks of wildly varying sizes!

This stay was fantastic! Tricia and backwoods reservations were more than helpful and kind! We did get lost trying to find the camp. Using google maps was more accurate to navigate the location. Everything was so clean and beautiful! The AC never got over 70 and stayed at 68 even during the afternoons! The hot tub worked amazing and was ready to go! I have never been a fan of bird watching but I could not stop watching the hummingbirds on the patio enjoying their feeder! It is a super private area and so relaxing. I highly recommend this amazing little spot for a couples get away! Bandera has so much to offer and staying here just made it so much more enjoyable! Obviously being in nature you will encounter bugs and fuzzy creatures so come prepared for this encounter with a little bug spray or replant candles! We most definitely will be coming back!

Tricia welcomed us and showed us around the moment we arrived. We felt very happy to be there. The deck that is integrated with the oak trees looked like a dream. The Tipi was quite comfortable and cool even with the heat. The hot tub was so lovely! The stars so beautiful and the water is the exact color as in the photos. We had fun in the water and enjoyed our view of the trees on the other side. Lots of birds and deer around. Inside the Tipi there is plenty of room. The bathroom is cool and perfect. We loved waking up to sunrise, soaking up the sun and watching all kinds of birds stop by. The deck overlooking the water has the perfect spots to enjoy the calmness. Thank you for having us. It was hard to leave. Next time we are staying for more nights instead of two. It’s just worth it! Thank you!

We had a great time at this property. Beautiful heavy duty teepee that had everything you would want from a nice hotel room, but with the cozy feel of a teepee. Very comfortable bed and the a.c. in the teepee kept us comfortable at night. The hot tub was great and the deck was huge and beautiful with trees all around looking out over a river. We watched deer walk across the river and in the wooded area across the river while we ate breakfast on the deck. There is nothing to hear out there other than birds singing and the occasional splash of river life from the river below. You will not want to go back to the city. The host Trisha was very responsive to the few questions we had and made sure we knew we could contact her anytime.

Absolutely amazing place to stay. So quiet and serene. Loved watching the hummingbirds

Beautiful tent with plentiful amenities to make us comfortable! The place was super clean & had everything you could possibly need/think of. It was a very peaceful getaway with an amazing outdoor hot tub, pretty scenery, ample porch space, and great fire pit with lots of fresh firewood. Lots of nice touches to make us feel right at home. Would highly recommend!!
