Big Fern Cabin in Leakey

Property Type : Guest House

Property Description

If you're seeking a Hill Country escape where you can disconnect completely from the rush and hustle of the everyday grind, the Big Fern Cabin near Leakey is just what the doctor ordered! This is a kid-friendly and pet-friendly vacation getaway in a mountainside location, with inspirational Hill Country views all around. It's a nature lover's dream in the country, but you'll also have access to great towns like Leakey, Vanderpool, Concan, and Utopia. It's a fantastic place to relax and decompress!

There are 63 acres of Hill Country beauty for you to discover at the Big Fern Cabin, with a wet-weather creek that flows right by your holiday cabin! You won't find a better setting for wildlife and bird watching, hiking, and stargazing. What's more, Garner State Park and the Lost Maples State Natural Area are both within a 20-mile drive. Motorcyclists love it as a center point for a Hill Country tour, and cycles are welcome here! Be aware the drive is a little steep, and is composed of Texas caliche, which can be challenging on a motorcycle.

Outside, you'll find covered parking. The Big Fern Cabin itself has a huge deck, furnished with an outdoor dining setup. The deck is shaded by oaks, and is designed around them, with their trunks rising through the deck itself. The panoramic views you'll enjoy here are the prettiest around! A gas grill and fire pit are also set up for cookouts, snacks, and private gatherings. For the well-being of all involved, a signed release of liability is required to rent the Big Fern Cabin.

Inside, you'll find comfortable space in the living area, along with a dining table that seats four. There's a fully-appointed kitchen, with appliances for meal prep, and a dishwasher for cleanup afterward. Cooking ware, dining ware, glasses, and utensils are provided, too! Central air and heat keep the comfort level to your liking.

Upstairs, there's a master suite with a full bathroom, including a shower and clean linens. The bedroom features a plush and comfy king-sized bed, and with the queen-sized sleeper futon downstairs, there's sleeping space at the Big Fern Cabin for up to four. For added convenience, there's a half-bath on the lower level of the cabin, too.

We'd like to note something you won't find here: TV. This is by design. The Big Fern Cabin is meant to be a true escape, where you can connect with nature, family, and friends without distractions. Many of our guests find this liberating!

What’s in a Name: Nameless, Texas

About five miles northeast of Lago Vista, and three north of Jonestown, you’ll find remnants of an interesting Hill Country ghost town. Nameless, Texas, never reached even 100 residents, and its overall history was fairly ordinary, but at the heart of its history is one of the most frustrating examples of governmental bureaucracy you’ll find anywhere.

We enjoyed our stay so much! Highly recommend this place to family & friends. Beautiful views, great service and lovely breakfast setting in the backyard. Warm welcome, relaxing and cozy. Thank you!

Our hosts were the best! Since we arrived after dark, they met us to guide us to the barndominium. We were advised about what we'd need to bring with us if we didn't want to shop right away. The surrounding roads are so fun to drive! The outside is so enjoyable. We spent most of our time on the deck. Perfect for viewing the eclipse, and the night sky. Just what we needed to really relax. Private note from Susan: Thank you for such a great stay! I never would have thought of this trip without your email. My husband was so happy with the outdoor spaces. He wants to go back for the next eclipse.
