The Spirit of the Hill Country: Where Texas History and Adventure Meet

There’s a certain feeling you get when you step into the Texas Hill Country — a quiet mix of wonder, freedom, and belonging. Maybe it’s the wide skies that stretch forever, or the way the hills catch the evening light just right. Maybe it’s the old stone towns, where history whispers through limestone walls, or the rivers that carve their way patiently through time. Whatever it is, this place has a spirit all its own. It’s rugged yet graceful, wild yet welcoming — the kind of place that invites you to explore, stay a while, and remember what life feels like when it’s simple and real.

This place was amazing! Secluded, peaceful and the scenery was breathtaking. It was everything I thought it would be and so much more. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

We chose this property because it was both large enough for our group of 10, and out of town. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a quiet spot to reconnect with family or friends. The cabin is as cute in person as it looks in the photos. The original structure is a lovely little antique cottage with a stone fireplace. The addition wraps around two sides of the cottage and makes it an appropriate space for a larger number of people. The kitchen is in the original area and it looks small in the photos, but we were able to bake, cook meals for 10, and clean up after with no problems at all, so don't let that worry you. Obviously, the back path to the river is the main attraction, and we spent a lot of our time outdoors. If we were there for a longer stay, there are a lot of things I would have liked to check out in the nearby towns. Since we were only there for a weekend, we will have to leave it at wanting to come back soon!

The cabin started much smaller than it is now. It had a cute living room with a kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. They added a huge living /dining space. It is nicely furnished and comfortable and was great for our small family of 4. It would easily accommodate a larger group. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean - very appreciated in these Covid times. The kitchen was well equipped, though some of the pots and pans were old as you would expect. The coffee pot marked "regular" didn't work but there was another to use that was fine. The property managers were responsive so I'd bet they have that replaced by now. Outside there were plenty of comfortable chairs and tables to hang out, play games and eat at. There are lots of trees so there was good shade. To get to the river you walk out back, down a small hill and across a small field. (Drive down if you need.) You can go straight through some bushes and hit the river - there is a bank you can climb down - or head to the left or right and find easy access. We explored up and down the river both in the water and on the banks. The water went from ankle deep to waist deep, very clear water. The night sky was wonderful. We saw several deer and plenty of birds, some fish. There are no cabins right by the river or on the other side so you felt you had plenty of space to play. There is a cabin close to this one on one side of the property but everything is situated so that you have privacy. There is nothing near on the other side. It was a quick drive into Bandera. We enjoyed the shops and restaurants there. The cabin is not a fancy place but an old family get away. Cozy feeling and comfy. We would definitely go back.

It was a fun weekend getaway for us. Casual and cute cabin, well situated and rustic views, lots of deer. The kids loved walking through the short pasture to the river which was lovely and cool, and we saw hardly a soul.
Jessie
We had a blast at the cabin. We walked to the river each day which is beautiful and not too far. It was a great way to explore nature with the kids. It's not just a house at the river, there is lots of room to roam and explore. This is an heirloom family cabin that appears to have been in their family for many generations. Very special to have lots of kids games on hand, art supplies, and big common areas inside and out to all be together and make meals. All the cooking essentials were there and lots of extra bedding and towels. There is nothing fancy here to worry about your kids messing up. You can just bring the family, relax and have fun.

This place was really great, I would stay again! Access to the river was easy and we found a beautiful place down the dirt road to the right to swim and hang out for hours. We drove a Ford F-150 down to haul our river supplies, I’m not sure if a vehicle any larger would fit through the 2 gates. The house was wonderful, especially the kitchen and great room areas which met our needs very well. The window air conditioning units kept us cool, but they do need a deep cleaning. The bathroom and two bedrooms are small areas, so we used them only as necessary, try not to overpack, as space is limited in those rooms. I’ve made a couple of suggestions for improvement in those areas. They need a deep cleaning, and real door knobs with locks. These were not deal breakers for us- only needs slight improvement. The outdoor area and furniture were convenient and the kids enjoyed playing in the big yard with trees and woods. Hint: use bug spray, and there are cushions for the outdoor furniture in the laundry room. This is a cute older home that met our needs well, and the access to the river was our favorite amenity. The kids had plenty of space to play, indoors and out. Overall, it was all we had hoped for
