The Cowboy Capital of the World: Why Bandera Still Rides Tall

There are towns in Texas with cowboy roots — and then there’s Bandera. Nestled along the Medina River, surrounded by rolling hills and wide-open ranchland, Bandera isn’t just proud of its heritage — it lives it every day. Known far and wide as the Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera embodies the spirit of the Old West with a genuine authenticity that’s getting harder to find. Here, boots aren’t just for show, rodeos still pack the stands, and a handshake still means something.

The Spirit of the Hill Country: Where Texas History and Adventure Meet

There’s a certain feeling you get when you step into the Texas Hill Country — a quiet mix of wonder, freedom, and belonging. Maybe it’s the wide skies that stretch forever, or the way the hills catch the evening light just right. Maybe it’s the old stone towns, where history whispers through limestone walls, or the rivers that carve their way patiently through time. Whatever it is, this place has a spirit all its own. It’s rugged yet graceful, wild yet welcoming — the kind of place that invites you to explore, stay a while, and remember what life feels like when it’s simple and real.

Our stay at Tabasco Ranch was wonderful! The cabin was very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the quiet country setting. We also enjoyed watching the deer and our nightly stargazing. The location was perfect, just a few minutes drive to Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Comfort. We enjoyed our visits to each of these towns, soaking up the local atmosphere, great food, then returning to our cabin in the evening for a peaceful, quiet and relaxing experience. We will definitely visit the ranch again ❤️

We had an amazing stay in the Star Cabin!! the property is beautiful, peaceful and serene! Although we didn't spend as much time here on our visit, the little time we did was amazing! We had a morning walk met animal friends took a few pictures and enjoyed every minute. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Thank you for making our weekend all the more amazing!!❤❤❤

We loved the cabins and the ranch, loved all the western décor but especially all the beautiful deer right outside our room. We didn’t get to the horses but maybe next time. Wonderful place, will definitely come back perhaps with friends and everyone can book their own cabin and still be within walking distance of each other. Super easy to get to as well.

My husband and I visited this past weekend for 1 night for a wedding and we are seriously considering coming back in a couple months for our wedding anniversary. We LOVED our stay. Very clean, great decor and aesthetic, and just an all around gorgeous property. Thank you so much for your hospitality and our stay. We LOVED it. We couldn’t stop commenting on how awesome your entire property is. I woke up in the morning and took a walk to explore and see your horses and Bruce let me follow him around and ask questions while he was taking the horses to their pastures and it was the highlight of my week. Mine and my husbands 9 year anniversary is coming up in August and we are seriously considering coming back! And I really can’t wait to visit again! Thank you so much!

Real nice place to stay if you want to spend time off the beaten path. Cabin is decorated in country style. Out in the country but still close enough that a short ride will get to many places of interest. Very clean and quiet. Everything you need to rest for the next day activities. Owners are very nice. Lots of deer in evenings and mornings to watch. No worries about your vehicle as you at not in parking lot next to other vehicles. Loved my stay and will stay again when I’m the area.
