The Hill Country is Wine Country!

In the past two decades or so, the wine industry in the Hill Country has exploded with growth. That’s easy to see, with new wineries opening at a rapid pace...but we, and some of our readers, have questions. How are productive wine regions discovered? Are there official wine producing areas, and if so, how are they designated as such? This article will dig a little deeper into these questions and more.

A Handy Hill Country Q & A

At Backroads Reservations, we’re especially aware that the Texas Hill Country is reliant in a big way on tourism. We’re proud to welcome people here, and to introduce them to our own little corner of heaven. With that said, we’re also aware that everyone can’t be from here; we have a tongue-in-cheeksaying that “I’m not from Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.”

A Park By Any Other Name: Hill Country WMAs

Visitors to the Texas Hill Country are generally aware of the state, county, and city parks available to them for recreation and relaxation. From the sprawling 12,000-plus acres of the Government Canyon State Natural Area to the modest but still impressive 16 acres of Old Tunnel State Park, there’s plenty of space and natural diversity to explore, not to mention parks of wildly varying sizes!

What guests are saying...

The house was perfect for our group of 2 adults and 4 kids, age 12-17. The pool and the pool table kept us entertained all weekend! The proximity to both Boerne and Bandera was awesome, but it’s far enough away that you have absolute peace and quiet. We really enjoyed the quiet mornings on the property and seeing all the wildlife. Deer walked into the backyard one evening while we were in the pool and the kids loved it. The house was outfitted with any type of kitchen gadget/tool you would need and everything was in great condition. Very clean home as well and we all thought the beds were super comfortable! There are also plenty of boardgames to keep you entertained during any down time you have on your trip. The customer service by the staff absolutely sets the place above any other property I have stayed. They were flexible with some minor requests we had and very quick to respond to any communication. Just book the place because you’ll love it!
This house blew us away. Never before had any of us stayed in a place with so many amenities. It's comfy, it's giant, it's peaceful, it's lovely. The location was quiet and secluded, but in close enough proximity to Boerne and Bandera. Thanks Spencer!
The house was lovely we enjoyed it thoroughly my children love the pool table the hot tub is very comfortable the pool was too cold but expected for this time of year the scenery was beautiful a perfect weekend getaway. The sunrise was beautiful and breathtaking and so is sunset! Would highly recommend it!

Summit House was better than the pictures portrayed. The experience we had from start to finish was so professional and easy. Communication with the company was fantastic and we even got a text that the house was ready for us to check in before the listed check in time, which was great, since we drove straight from Georgia. We loved everything from the beautiful house and pool, kayaking, trails, hiking and seeing all the wildlife right out our kitchen window! Thank you and we will not only be seeing you again but are sending others your way!
What an amazing place! The location and setting is really great. The pictures don't do it justice. My family and I really enjoyed the peacefulness and relaxing atmosphere of the back patio (that is huge) that includes a really nice fire pit, pool and spa, as well as plenty of seating. The layout of the house is very nice and you can tell there was a lot of thought put into the design of the house. Be sure to explore the Barn (wedding venue), and creek on the back of the property. It is private and secluded, but close enough to run into Boerne or Bandera for food, antiques, shopping etc. We truly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
We loved our stay at the Summit House and can't say enough good things about it. The house is gorgeous and super spacious. The outdoor area is so relaxing and dreamy. The kitchen is equipped with pretty much anything you need; not only pots, pans and utensils, but also a large selection of spices and multiple appliances like toaster, mixer, crockpot, etc. Janice did a great job communicating and being available for any questions we had. Can't go wrong with this airbnb
