The day-to-day grind of city living can take its toll after a while-and you owe it to yourself to enjoy a relaxing and pampered getaway! With that in mind, you should check out some of the best bed and breakfast accommodations available in colorful Castroville: the Pingenot Hus! Not only will you have the history, cuisine, and shopping of Castroville at your front door, but the Frio River, Garner State Park, and Paradise Canyon are all within an hour or so from this premium location.

The gracious Old-World European charm of this beautifully restored 1847 house makes it the setting for one of the best romantic getaways in Texas! Treat yourself and your special someone like royalty, with luxurious touches such as signature toiletries, high-quality linens, and complimentary teas and coffees-all topped off by a fresh, home-cooked breakfast for a modest fee. Even though it's only half an hour from San Antonio, you'll think you're in a whole different world!

The Pingenot Hus has the look of an authentic French farmhouse, which fits nicely with the historic theme of Castroville's downtown surrounding it. Out back is a roomy, shaded, and well-lit patio for socializing, and there are also indoor and outdoor games provided for you to enjoy. The patio is shared with the Kennedy Hus right next door; the adjoining rental is also available-so let us know if you'd like to reserve both (each can sleep up to four; renting both would double the number of guests to eight). Ample parking is available here, as well.

Luxury, economy, and beauty grace the interior of this gorgeous home, highlighted by stone and hardwood floors. The bedroom features a queen-sized bed, and there are two additional twin beds, providing comfortable sleeping arrangements for up to four. A huge, custom-tiled shower adorns the full bathroom, and high-quality bed and bath linens are provided-you can even purchase your own set! The unit includes a microwave, mini fridge, and a dining area, and for your added comfort and entertainment, there's central air and heating, a smart TV with Netflix, and Wifi.

Let us show you what makes the Pingenot Hus the heart of one of our best Castroville vacation packages! This quiet, shaded property is the perfect place to unwind for a weekend. One call to us at Backroads Reservations, and you'll be on the road to this wonderful bed and breakfast.

The Cowboy Capital of the World: Why Bandera Still Rides Tall

There are towns in Texas with cowboy roots — and then there’s Bandera. Nestled along the Medina River, surrounded by rolling hills and wide-open ranchland, Bandera isn’t just proud of its heritage — it lives it every day. Known far and wide as the Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera embodies the spirit of the Old West with a genuine authenticity that’s getting harder to find. Here, boots aren’t just for show, rodeos still pack the stands, and a handshake still means something.

The Spirit of the Hill Country: Where Texas History and Adventure Meet

There’s a certain feeling you get when you step into the Texas Hill Country — a quiet mix of wonder, freedom, and belonging. Maybe it’s the wide skies that stretch forever, or the way the hills catch the evening light just right. Maybe it’s the old stone towns, where history whispers through limestone walls, or the rivers that carve their way patiently through time. Whatever it is, this place has a spirit all its own. It’s rugged yet graceful, wild yet welcoming — the kind of place that invites you to explore, stay a while, and remember what life feels like when it’s simple and real.

This property was exactly as pictured. Rustic and charming, absolutely perfect for a girls' weekend or romantic getaway. I would definitely visit again. The city is very walkable. You can get to several cute cafes and lunch eateries from this location.

Our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and we couldn’t ask for better accommodations! We loved all the decor of the home and the history behind the property. Really enjoyed the delicious breakfast brought to us every morning! You definitely won’t be disappointed if you stay here!

Our stay here was wonderful! The house is so unique and cozy, beautifully decorated. The photos don’t do it justice. Weekend breakfast was delicious, the host delivered it to our kitchen table every morning, along with fresh fruit and fresh orange juice left in the fridge. There’s also a coffee shop called Magnolia Filling Station walking distance and they have delicious coffee. Lots of little shops and antique stores in the area, very historic and enjoyable. I definitely recommend!
