Frieda Cabin means good view, and the cabin was named before anybody thought about marketing. It sits on Hill Country acreage six miles from downtown Fredericksburg, built from antique oak logs salvaged out of a cabin from the late 1800s, and it looks out over country that hasn't changed much.

One bedroom, queen bed, a gas fireplace, and a claw-foot tub. The kitchenette has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and an electric skillet — enough for breakfast and a late snack. There's a gas grill out back for everything else, which is how most people end up using it anyway.

There's also a shared outdoor kitchen and gathering area with a large gas barbecue pit, plenty of outdoor seating, and a television. It's a good place to cook dinner, settle in for the evening, and enjoy the ranch without having to go anywhere.

The hot tub is private. The front porch is covered and has rockers on it, and it faces the kind of sunset people stop talking during.

There's wildlife in every direction — deer, songbirds, horses and cattle in the pastures. Sit still on that porch for twenty minutes and something will walk into view. Your dog is welcome here, and there's room to walk one. Keep the leash on near the pastures — the horses and cattle are residents, and they were here first.

You're close to the wineries, Enchanted Rock, Lady Bird Johnson Park, the Nimitz Museum, and the Herb Farm. Close enough to do all of it, far enough that when you come back at night it's quiet and dark.
