The Cowboy Capital of the World: Why Bandera Still Rides Tall

There are towns in Texas with cowboy roots — and then there’s Bandera. Nestled along the Medina River, surrounded by rolling hills and wide-open ranchland, Bandera isn’t just proud of its heritage — it lives it every day. Known far and wide as the Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera embodies the spirit of the Old West with a genuine authenticity that’s getting harder to find. Here, boots aren’t just for show, rodeos still pack the stands, and a handshake still means something.

Hill Country Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries to Visit This Fall

There’s a certain magic that sweeps across the Hill Country in fall — cooler air, golden light, and long afternoons meant for good company and a glass of something local. Over the past two decades, this region has blossomed into one of the country’s most exciting wine, beer, and spirits destinations. From the rolling vineyards of Fredericksburg to the tucked-away distilleries near Blanco and Dripping Springs, the Hill Country pours hospitality by the glass.

The Spirit of the Hill Country: Where Texas History and Adventure Meet

There’s a certain feeling you get when you step into the Texas Hill Country — a quiet mix of wonder, freedom, and belonging. Maybe it’s the wide skies that stretch forever, or the way the hills catch the evening light just right. Maybe it’s the old stone towns, where history whispers through limestone walls, or the rivers that carve their way patiently through time. Whatever it is, this place has a spirit all its own. It’s rugged yet graceful, wild yet welcoming — the kind of place that invites you to explore, stay a while, and remember what life feels like when it’s simple and real.

Absolutely brilliant! Fantastic hosts, especially Brett who showed us around the ranch and allowed us to feed the animals. Great breakfast too, couldn’t recommend this place more. Wild deer and a quiet spot 10 minutes out of town. This is your sign to book it.
Eline
We loved our stay! Brett and Jill were super friendly and fun. Breakfast was amazing! We helped Brett feeding the animals which was fun! If only we could give six stars❤️
Lea Anne
I can’t say enough heartfelt words to describe our stay . My son and I were travelling around Texas over school break. This is a lovely rural Texas experience. Brett is the most kind, thoughtful, wise, caring, respectful man. He brought us a Texas style breakfast on a tray right to our cabin door both morning. I am not sure what was bigger and brighter- the wonderful welcoming smile on Brett’s face or the sunshine in the sky. Both my son and I shed tears leaving this rural Texan delight. We wanted to move in . Can’t thank you both enough for the wonderful lifelong memories you brought to our family. Thank you.
Alexander
We had an amazing Valentine’s Day weekend in the “Cowboy Cabin.” Brett & Jill were so kind to leave a heart shaped box of chocolates in our room and bring breakfast to our door every morning. We felt right at home. Wonderful stay!
Angela
Our time at Double U Barr Ranch was wonderful! The hosts were friendly and informative, the cabin was homey and comfortable. The breakfasts were SUPERB! We enjoyed watching all the animals that make their home at the ranch, from the ducks and donkey to the horse and deer. Even the cats were friendly and would come to visit our place!
Michelle
Our stay started with the beautiful drive down the winding roads and over the bridge of Medina river, we were greeted by the owners and host. We were early but they were kind to let us in. The cabin is just as the pictures , everything we needed was there. The first night we stayed in and hung out on the porch and got meet the farm animal Brett was happy to answer our questions and share stories too. The next day we were happily delivered trays stuffed full of a great breakfast made by Brett. We road the day on our motorcycles and came back to the cabin to a peace night's sleep. It was fun feeding the animals and learning about them. This the type of place for families/ couples/small groups. Only a few minutes from town. We'll worth the stay!
