The Hill Country is Wine Country!

In the past two decades or so, the wine industry in the Hill Country has exploded with growth. That’s easy to see, with new wineries opening at a rapid pace...but we, and some of our readers, have questions. How are productive wine regions discovered? Are there official wine producing areas, and if so, how are they designated as such? This article will dig a little deeper into these questions and more.

A Handy Hill Country Q & A

At Backroads Reservations, we’re especially aware that the Texas Hill Country is reliant in a big way on tourism. We’re proud to welcome people here, and to introduce them to our own little corner of heaven. With that said, we’re also aware that everyone can’t be from here; we have a tongue-in-cheeksaying that “I’m not from Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.”

A Park By Any Other Name: Hill Country WMAs

Visitors to the Texas Hill Country are generally aware of the state, county, and city parks available to them for recreation and relaxation. From the sprawling 12,000-plus acres of the Government Canyon State Natural Area to the modest but still impressive 16 acres of Old Tunnel State Park, there’s plenty of space and natural diversity to explore, not to mention parks of wildly varying sizes!

Me and my Daughter enjoyed our stay and Shirley and Keith (the owners) were so kind! Everything we needed was in the cabin! We also learned about plants from her huge garden! Deer came right up to the back porch! The views are breathtaking from the covered patio! Can’t wait to visit again! Thanks again

Our casita was Perfect in every way! Pictures are accurate for where we stayed. Very clean, comfortable with cold AC. Peaceful location in the beautiful hill country. We saw lots of wildlife and sat outside in the evening listening to the birds and frogs over at the pond. Low water just bc of lack of rain. We enjoyed the hot tub at night, cooked breakfast & made our coffee in the morning; an electric cook top is provided with all the cooking pans/utensils (bring your seasonings). Other houses on site but it is still private. We did meet the owners and they were lovely to talk to. Planning our next trip back asap! This place is a Gem. Ya'll were easy to communicate with and we appreciate that. Texts and emails were great. Clear instructions for everything we needed to know from directions all the way to check out. Thank you for making the trip easy!

Bourne and Bandera are both 15 minutes away each way, and have plenty of food and grocery stores. Being in the middle of them was perfect, peaceful, and relaxing. Frederickburgs was about 50 minutes, but worth seeing it for a day! You will NOT regret booking this place.

The place was beautiful and Fredericksburg and Kerrville are within driving distance, the host were very responsive and helpful, they even babysat our dog while we were out to dinner. This was not planned, but shows how helpful the hostess was. The view was amazing with a lot of wildlife to see. I would definitely return and we recommend it to others.

What a blissful, beautiful place. A lovely warm inviting cozy single large room that overlooks the gorgeous Texas Hill County, the huge fire pit & the wonderful hot tub. Lots of deer & rabbits wandering around and a sky full of stars. Minutes from Bandera & close to lots of lovely little towns with great shopping & dining options. But plan to just sit & relax, don't make too many plans other than wandering the property & lounging in the tub & making a roaring fire.
Eleah
Absolutely incredible little gem hidden away in the hill country. Peaceful, beautiful views. We spent hours just sitting on the swing, skipped rocks, grilled, explored the nearby towns, enjoyed the hot tub, and got to bring our dog. 100% recommend for a hill country getaway! Thanks for everything!
